This guide requires a user with at least Restricted Editor role or Editor role, if in a Group. If you don't meet these minimum requirements you will NOT be able to make the necessary changes.

The Article content type supports news-type items created by you or your team. Use this content type to create news articles, stories, or press releases.

For more information on determining the content type to use, selecting the content type in Drupal, or finding your content to edit, please refer to the linked Help Desk articles.

Field Details

Required fields are denoted with a red asterisk* in Drupal.

1. General

  • Headline: This is the article title / headline displayed on the webpage. Recommended length: 72-96 characters.

  • SEO Headline: The SEO Headline determines the URL and is displayed in search engine results. It helps drive traffic to your page. Most common is to use the same wording as the Headline field. We recommend keeping it the same unless you’re an administrator.

  • Short HeadlineA shorter version of the headline that will display when referencing this article from some space-limited locations, such as the headlines grids or sidebar. Recommended length: less than 48 characters.

  • Short Description: This description is used and displayed by search engines and is also used in article displays such as the headlines grids, so it’s important to be concise. Recommended length: 60-160 characters. We also recommend not adding any formatting to the text when you add it to the text field.

This description will not be displayed on the article webpage.

  • Subhead: Descriptive text that displays below the Headline on the article. Recommended length: 60-200 characters.
    • Text should be in sentence case (i.e., not every word capitalized), with no styling, including bolding or italics, except for species names and other cases described in the Bloomberg School Editorial Style Guide.

  • Social Image: Specify an alternate image to be used when sharing this content on social media. Learn more about Social Images in Drupal.

  • Tags: You can select up to 5 keywords or enter your own.

  • Topics: Topics can be selected from the dropdown list, if they're applicable.

  • Department: This field is required if you’re creating an article for a Department, so it can be associated with that Department. Start typing in the name of the Department in the field, then select the relevant Department(s) from the dropdown.

Group Sites
Please coordinate with your Department Communications Associate before tagging a Department as this can display the article on their Department pages.

Group Sites

Your article type will be pre-selected with Center or Institute or Affiliated Program so you do not need to select an article type.

  • Article Contributor: Select the author(s) of the article by typing in their name and selecting it from the dropdown. These names will appear in the byline, e.g. By Jane Smith. If you need to add a new article contributor that isn't currently in Drupal, please use the Article Contributor content type.

If others contributed to the piece, this can be mentioned in intro text or a footer line.

  • Visual Contributor: Name of the person who created the Featured Image if applicable.

  • External URL and Source: Refrain from using these two fields unless you’re working on an External Article.

3. Page Components

  • Featured Image: Image will display below the header. You’re responsible for ensuring permission to use the image on our website and any necessary credit citation. Learn more about Featured Images.

  • Thumbnail Image: Specify an alternate image to be used when this content is displayed in lists or views throughout the site. Useful for alternate crops for wider images used in the more square thumbnails. Learn more about Thumbnail Images.

  • Page Components: Here, you can build the content of your article by adding components. Not all components are available in the article content type. Some of the components available are Text (default, pre-loaded for new articles), Profile List, Accordion, and Aside.
