What is the Events Calendar?
The Events Calendar provides a one-stop look at events across the Bloomberg School. The calendar is public and viewable at: publichealth.jhu.edu/events-calendar.
How does the Events Calendar improve scheduling and communications?
Internal and external audiences can easily find events they want to attend, and prospective students can get a sense of our event offerings.
Events on the calendar will be promoted to Bloomberg School students, faculty, and staff in the “SPHeed Read” email newsletter.
NOTE: Calendar events should be submitted for review by 9 a.m. ET the day before the SPHeed Read is sent in order for them to be reviewed for inclusion in that edition. Please note, if the content moderator denotes edits are needed to your event content, those edits need to be resolved before the event can be included in the SPHeed Read so your event may not be able to be included in the next SPHeed Read.
Event planners can use the Events Calendar to aid in scheduling, maximize attendance, and reduce frustration over overlapping events by making it easy to see what other events are occurring at a given time.
What types of events can be added to the Events Calendar?
Events can be added to the calendar if they are offered by a Department, Center, or Student Group at our School AND it is open to anyone at the Bloomberg School, JHU, or outside audiences. Private, invitation-only events, e.g., grant review panels, study team, or committee meetings, and events from other Johns Hopkins groups and divisions outside of the Bloomberg School should not be on the Bloomberg School calendar. JHU events can be submitted to the SPHeed Read for “Around Hopkins” and shared on the Hub calendar.
Who can add events to the Events Calendar?
Bloomberg School staff, faculty, and student groups are welcome to add events to the calendar. Please coordinate with your affiliated Department or Center for visibility and to ensure duplicate entries are not being submitted.
How can I add events to the website and structure my event information so it looks professional?
Please read both:
For a guide on using the event content type in Drupal to add events to the Events Calendar, refer to our Event Content Type Guide.
For a guide on how to best structure and style your event webpage, see How to Create an Engaging Event article. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the features available to make your event more appealing to audiences.
What are the best practices for Zoom events?
Given the Schoolwide Events Calendar is public, webinars should be set up to require registration, password protected links, and other recommended Zoom security safeguards. Zoom’s support site has helpful guides and best practices.
Who should I contact with questions about using the Events Calendar?
- For technical support, please review the information in our Event Content Type Guide. If that doesn’t answer your question, please submit a ticket to the website Help Desk.
