Anchor tags allow you to segment a long piece of content. By linking to each segment's anchor tag, you allow the user to quickly jump through sections of the same page or even go to a specific section on a different page.
Create the Anchor Tag
- Place the cursor at the beginning of the paragraph or heading where you want the link to point
- Select the Anchor button (flag icon) from the toolbar
- Enter a name for the anchor in URL format (no spaces or symbols, only hyphens)
- The tag will be added in the form of a link. As indicated there, this is an invisible anchor and it will not be displayed once published.
Once done you can create links to the anchor tag from the same or from a different page.
Troubleshooting- When you create an anchor be sure not to have extra spaces before or after your Anchor Name.
- If the heading or text looks like a link (is underlined), then this was likely caused because in step 1 you selected/highlighted the entire text. Instead, simply click in front of the text. This will create an "empty" anchor.
Create a Link to the Anchor Tag
- Head to the page or section where you want to create the link from
- Select the text you want to turn into a link and select the link tool
- Is the anchor in the same page or a different one?
- From the Same page.
Enter the number sign (#) followed by the anchor name used before, e.g.#contact-us
. - From a Different page.
Instead of entering the page name, you will need to enter the full full URL of the page
Append the number sign (#) followed by the anchor name used before, e.g.#contact-us
.
- From the Same page.
When Linking to an anchor, make sure that there are no extra spaces in the URL.
